New York Mets move past Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park - MLB Update
Third baseman, David Wright and right fielder, Lucas Duda take the New York Mets ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies in a 7-4 win at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 8, 2012 in the second game of three-match series.
The Mets had a humble beginning and went scoreless in first three innings while the Phillies, in the meantime, added four runs.
Just what the Mets have been doing throughout the season, coming from behind and running away with the victory, the game saw another replication.
Until the start of seventh, the Mets were trailing by three runs and only a bombastic upsurge was needed from the offence during penultimate innings.
As their offence duly obliged and managed to bridge deficit, a notion that hitters cannot be effective under-pressure was somehow negated.
Right fielder, Hunter Pence had another terrific game for the Phillies. While hitting a homer, he brought two RBIs in five at-bats.
Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel is worried by a jinx surrounding the club and was ruing the chances they squandered in a couple of games.
Even during the game against the Braves in their 13-15 loss, all through the match, they dominated, but kind of fatigue that took over after they managed lead was something, the manager believed had been affecting them badly.
"We're kind of spinning our wheels," Manuel said. "The teams that we're playing at times they try to give us a game but then we act like we don't want to take it, and we make mistakes and give it right back to them when we have a lead."
Mets’ centre fielder, Andres Torres is doing great job ever since he has returned to the season. He went 2-for-5 in the game.
Miguel Batista started for the Mets, giving up four runs and eight hits in little more than five innings.
Batista had his first outing after being called up to the Majors, following an injury to one of the Mets’ starters, Mike Pelfrey.
An art of pulling off a win during the most hopeless of the situations has been the Mets’ property this year. If they can continue beating opponents like this, they have every reason to have fabulous season ahead.
