New York Mets outclass Cincinnati Reds 8-4 as Matt Harvey is solid on the mound - MLB Update
The starter Matt Harvey throws little more than seven innings as the New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio on August 16, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
Finally the Mets’ offence unleashes fireworks and posts a sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard after it slumped earlier.
While in the first three innings the Mets were scoreless, it was the beginning of the fourth when they rose to a run-rampage which culminated in the form of eight runs they added at the end of the game.
In the meantime, Reds were not allowed to connect hits freely and dent the rising lead of the Mets. The starting pitcher Matt Harvey was efficient in drawing strike-outs and finishing the innings. While the Reds attempted to fight back, he was resilient
in the face of a counter-attack and thus was successful in blocking runs in the end.
Meanwhile, the Mets will be concerned about their bullpen as when Harvey left the mound and Frank Francisco replaced him the Reds managed to score three more runs. If it was not for the comprehensive lead maintained by New York in the match, the Reds may
have been able to pull off the stunning victory.
Offensively, Ike Davis stepped up for New York. He contributed two RBIs while striking two hits in four at-bats.
Meanwhile, New York saw their left fielder Jason Bay who has been unimpressive so far hitting a home-run on Thursday.
"I'm adjusting to a new role now and it's given me time to work on some things," said Bay. "It felt good. I feel like this change has been on me for a while. It is up to me, but it doesn't go into my at-bat to at-bat preparation."
The Mets’ manager Terry Collins is conscious of the fact that Francisco was about to let the Reds bounce back by surrendering runs during the penultimate innings.
"Francisco has struggled with locating his fastball since he came back from the oblique injury. We just need to get him some work," Collins said.
The series has come to an end. By taking positives from the game and using them to restore their confidence, the Mets will now be trying to build up long winning streaks.
