New York Mets outclass Philadelphia Phillies 9-5 as Bobby Parnell stands out - MLB Update
Relief pitcher Bobby Parnell stands out as the New York Mets comprehensively beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the first match of the three game series on August 28, 2012.
Phillies squandered the chance to record a victory as they struggled to build up on their first inning run-rampage later in the game. After scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, it was not unreasonable to believe that the Mets will easily surrender
and hand them the win. However a complete unresponsive attitude assumed by the Phillies’ offence throughout the game gave Mets an opportunity to launch an effective counter-attack.
New York kept adding runs occasionally until the score was tied at the end of the ninth. Hence the game ventured into additional innings. The tenth inning proved decisive as the Mets managed to score four runs out of the pitches thrown by the Phillies’ reliever
B.J. Rosenberg.
On the other hand, New York’s reliever Bobby Parnell was impeccable as he completed two scoreless innings.
Offensively the Mets saw their second baseman Daniel Murphy striking three hits in the match. Other than him, third baseman David Wright contributed two RBIs while connecting two hits in three at-bats.
However the contribution of Ike Davis was the most valuable because when he struck the hit as the pressure was on. A scoreless inning by the team at this stage of the game will have easily meant that the Phillies score one run in the bottom of the tenth
and pull off a stunning triumph.
Davis doubled to deep centre and sent Wright aboard as the Mets went past the Phillies.
Meanwhile, Rosenberg has expressed his disappointment after being roughed up in the tenth. He suffered the loss. Outwitting the quality hitters was not easy for him and therefore as he fell to them on the mound it was hardly a surprise.
"It wasn't a fun one," Rosenberg said. "For whatever reason, I didn't quite feel like myself. Everything was up. It's pretty simple, you make really bad pitches to good hitters and you're going to get in trouble. All I can do is try and bounce back."
New York appears to be making amends for the heaps of losses they experienced earlier. After defeating the Houston Astros in the last series, they have begun performing regularly. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep winning games now.
