New York Mets outclass San Francisco Giants 2-1 as Jonathon Niese shines on the mound-MLB Update
The starter Jonathon Niese finishes an impressive spell of seven innings as he helps the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 at AT&T Park, San Francisco, California on August 1, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
In a low scoring game, a couple of productive hits can decide the outcome of the game.
On Wednesday while the pitchers from both the sides were terrific, the hitters struggled to strike big hits.
Mets added one run in the first and the second inning each. Afterwards, they went through the rest of the innings scoreless.
Giants did not capitalise in the meantime, as the Mets were successful in keeping them from blowing their lead.
Both the starter and the relievers together laid the foundation of the victory for New York. The home-run by Buster Posey apart, Giants were made to toil by them for finding hits throughout the game.
The relief pitcher Bobby Parnell carried out an excellent job for the Mets by hurling immaculate throws in the last inning.
One can expect that the Giants will unravel him and fetch runs from his throws under pressure. Credit to him, he offered little for the batters to make anything substantial out of his throws.
Meanwhile, the Mets’ manager Terry Collins narrates the pre-game motivational conversation he had with his starter Niese. Collins had told him that if the Mets win, he is going to deliver something wonderful on the mound.
"I said, 'Look, I need you tonight. Step up tonight,'" Collins said. "He said, 'I'll try.' I gave him the old, 'I can get a truck driver to try.' He just came into my office and asked me if I could drive a truck. I said, 'You can drive my truck any day.'"
Offensively, the Mets saw their shortstop Ruben Tejada hitting the home-run and spearheading the team to an early lead in the game. He struck three hits on Wednesday in four at-bats.
Apart from him, the third baseman David Wright stepped up to charge the offence up. He also made three hits in the game.
For the next game, Collins will be expecting the hitters to convert the hits into greater number of runs.
