New York Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to play in regulars – MLB News
The New York Mets are trying to regain the lost momentum of last Major League Baseball season as they recently took some drastic steps forward to make things slight better in the ongoing season.
The Mets’ management has called up outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to join the team in the absence of their talented all round player Andres Torres who recently has been put on to disabled list for a strained left calf injury which will likely to sideline him
from the pitch for three to four weeks.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who will join the Mets from their farm system Minor League team Triple-A Buffalo, has missed the entire 2012 MLB Spring Training, but at present, feeling enormously privileged and excited to start a Major League game for his senior team.
Wally Backman, the Mets’ Triple-A team manager, said for Nieuwenhuis, “He’s a hard-nosed, aggressive player, He plays the game the way Aaron Rowand played the game when he first came to the big leagues. That is the type of player he is. I think in time he’s
going to be a real good hitter.”
Mets hitting coach, Dave Hudgens said, “He’s got power — he’s a big, strong kid, I know he hits a lot of balls up the middle and the other way, so he’s got pretty good strike-zone discipline, he’ll fit in to what we want to do. It’s just that it’s at the
major league level. He’s got a lot of upside for sure.”
This is a healthy sign for the Mets’ as they are currently facing some real troubles in the centre field and Nieuwenhuis’ presence will make things better for them. His recent career with Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A Binghamton showed his true talents as
well. In the previous year before when he hit 18 home runs along with driving in 77 runs in total 124 games at both Buffalo and A Binghamton were enough for the Mets top management to think wisely regarding the next best choice for the team in any particular
player’s absence.
Some say the Mets overall team is looking confident and the arrival of Minor Leaguer Nieuwenhuis into the active roster will also make things stronger for the entire South New York baseball franchise.
