New York Mets outscore Miami Marlins 4-2 as Jeremy Hefner throws solid innings - MLB Update
Starter Jeremy Hefner completes little more seven innings on the mound as New York Mets outscore Miami Marlins 4-2 at Marlins Park, Miami on October 3, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
New York hardly faced any resistance in their way toward victory on Wednesday. All through the match, they were the favourites for ending the game victorious.
By posting three runs in a span of the third and fourth inning, they rose to a lead which remained for the rest of the game.
Late in the innings, Marlins fought back and put some runs on the scoreboard but it was too little too late.
Both Miami and the Mets are looking for consolation wins and are trying to bring cheers on the faces of their disgruntled fans. As they are out of contention, only objective they are aiming to achieve right now is preparing for the future and making sure
they start next season with some momentum on their side.
Hefner was brilliant on the mound. He struck-out seven and leaked just two runs. Similarly pitchers that followed him threw solid innings and restricted the opposition from blowing their lead.
Offensively the Mets banked on home-runs to score runs. First baseman Ike Davis smacked a home-run while facing three at-bats.
As far as the Marlins were concerned, defeat on Wednesday will be a further dent to their dismal performance in the season so far.
Top officials of the organisations are at the mercy of the owner Jeffrey Loria, who will be planning changes in the managerial staff. Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen tops the list of the officials that will possibly be sacked in the offseason.
"They're going to have a meeting soon about it," Guillen said. "It's a very tough situation. We all failed, and we're all a big part of this bad season. They have to think about it, and with time see what we need, and think with their mind and not their
heart. Right now it's too hard to make decisions because everybody is bitter and very upset and disappointed with the season. I think they're doing the right thing to think about it."
As both the teams failed in the season, it will be interesting to see what kind of changes they introduce for the next year in their rosters.
