New York Mets overpower Los Angels Dodgers 4-2 in series tie: MLB Updates

The New York Mets romped to a 4-2 victory in their second outing against league rivals, Los Angels Dodgers, at the Citi Field on Saturday night, on May 7, to tie the three-game series at 1-1.
The Mets’ Just Turner played a vital role in the victory, hitting a leading RBI double in the eighth off the Dodgers’ closer Matt Guerrier, who otherwise was pitching hitless in nine pitches. The hit cemented the Mets’ fifteenth triumph in 2011.
"It felt good to get a fastball and not miss it," Turner said. "I hit it pretty well, but at Citi Field, who knows what's going to happen out there, if it's going to hang up or not. Lucky for me, it hit off the tip of his glove."
The Mets had achieved an early lead in the second inning when Josh Thole hit a sacrifice fly for a single and Jose Reyes smashed an RBI grounder to centre of the field off the Dodgers’ starter Jon Garland to take 2-0 lead. The Mets however could not enjoy
this lead for long as in the top of the fourth, the Dodgers’ catcher Doiner Navarro launched a homer.
Navarro received a looking strike and then swung brilliantly for a 348-feet long one-run homer off the Mets starter Dillon Gee, shortening the deficit to 1-2. In the sixth, Aaron Miles added an RBI tying single for the club and turned the outing into an
exciting game.
The Mets relieved Dillon with O’Connor to finish the sixth inning. O’Connor remained scoreless and in the seventh was relieved by R Igarashi, who held the Dodgers scoreless.
On the other hand, Garland gave two runs on seven hits, allowed three walks and made three strikeouts to end his six innings spell in seventh. McDougal relieved Garland, pitched a strong scoreless inning but could not keep the same momentum in the eighth
and gave away four balls before being relieved by Hong-Chih Kuo.
Kuo started with a fly ball out at shortstop position then tossed a looking strike before giving a sacrifice fly that moved Jason Bay to second base. He then tossed four balls allowing Bay to move to third base and then received an RBI consuming hit from
the Mets slugger Justin Turner. The run moved the Mets two runs ahead of the Dodgers with the board reading 4-2.
The manager Terry Collins seemed pleased at his teams performance.
Collins said, "The one thing that every team needs is those guys on that bench to come off and give you some good at-bats or, when they're in the game, you have confidence they're going to get the job done." Collins further added, "Those two guys have certainly
done that. Ronny has been a great addition to us. J.T., he keeps himself ready, he is one of those guys that watches the game very closely and prepares himself. He's made our bench better."
The Mets’ closer, Francisco Rodriguez, pitched a perfect last inning for his ninth save of the season and help the club comeback in the series with 1-1.
