New York Mets’ pitching coach shows optimism on Johan Santana’s progress – MLB News
The New York Mets’ head pitching coach Dan Warthen is happy with left-handed starting pitcher Johan Santana’s preparations ahead of next Spring Training Camps. He was happy as his player is bitter after the affects of shoulder surgery literally cost him an entire Major League season.
Warthen was recently talking to the media and explained to them regarding Santana’s preparations back home in New York where he is concentrating on his fast throwing ability.
Warthen said, “I’ve been looking at video from when he’s been down here recently and comparing it to video from 2008, before he got hurt. It’s no different. Not even one percent. That’s extremely important. It’s just a matter of maintaining that his throw. We’ve got to monitor him very closely, just like we have throughout his recovery.”
He added, “We have to make sure his delivery and arm are there. You’ve got to show me. I think he is more anxious than anyone."
The Mets’ talented pitcher Johan did not play during the whole 2011 Major League season due to some after-effects of his shoulder surgery. Though initially some doctors did say that he will be playing late in the regular season but the Mets’ top executive and some close to Santana told him to rest the whole year and come with renewed energy in 2012. Now sources including the Mets’ management have confirmed about his potential arrival this season.
Having played 11 years in the MLB, Santana is certainly a good player with a pitching average of 3.10 ERA, 133-69 win loss record, 1877 strike-outs and 1.12 WHIP. He will certainly prove a great advantage for the Mets’ in the upcoming season.
Experts also believe that whenever Santana arrives, the other MLB teams will automatically observe the big difference that the Mets’ will posses. He is a talented player and possesses the ability to outdo every opponent at difficult situations. His past record also suggests he will be a great winning factor next season and especially in the Mets’ Division teams.
