New York Mets put Andres Torres and Scott Hairston on waiver - MLB Update
The New York Mets finally realise that making further effort to improve their winning percentage drastically on the table will fail and therefore have resorted to sending Andres Torres and Scott Hairston on waivers. The teams can claim them until Monday.
The chances are that more organisations will be interested in acquiring the outfielder Scott Hairston because of the kind of contract he has signed with the Mets. In contrast to an expensive contract of Torres, the club owes just a reasonable amount to Hairston
for this year, which makes him worth pursuing as an option for the teams.
Centre-fielder Andres Torres has been mediocre in the season with just two home-runs and 32 RBIs contributed so far. The kind of performance which was fancied by the management from him has not been seen. The decline that the Mets’ offence has gone through
in the last couple of months is due to the poor shows by most of their reliable batters on the plate.
Since the beginning of the second half apart from Ike Davis and David Wright largely their offence has floundered. Along with the rest of the batters, Torres has battled it hard on the plate to find connections and has failed more often than not.
In comparison, Scott Hairston has been far better. In particular against the left handed pitchers, his performance has been impressive. Therefore it will not be a surprise if the organisations show interest and attempt to claim him from the waiver before
Monday.
Meanwhile, the Mets will be drawing up a plan about the possible exchanges in the deal. They will be exploring farm systems of the various teams and will be looking for prospects that can help the club in the upcoming seasons.
The Mets are out of contention at the moment and therefore preparing for the future is the best way to go.
Irrespective of whether the deal happens or not, New York requires the restructuring of their roster. On one side they have the issues of awarding contract extension to David Wright and R.A. Dickey and on the other they need changes in their offence.
It will be interesting to see as to what actually happens within the next few days regarding a possible trade.
