New York Mets re-sign outfielder Scott Hairston – MLB News
The New York Mets have re-signed their outfielder Scott Hairston to complete their 40-man roster for the next Major League Baseball season.
Hairston, who played wonderfully last season going with a .235 hitting average along with seven home-runs, 24 RBIs and .303 OBP, possesses some huge baseball talent. His consistent performance last season is the main reason behind the Mets decision to re-sign
him for a further year.
Sandy Alderson, the Mets’ general manager was happy to re-sign Hairston, talked to the media and stated that Hairston is certainly a great player. While the next season might be a great challenge for him when their city rivals the New York Yankees will burst
on the field remembering they were beaten by the Mets last season at the bottom half of the season.
Alderson also mentioned that their roster is almost completed with the re-signing of Hairston but they are also hopeful regarding their injured star player Johan Santana.
Telling little about future relations with Hairston, Alderson later focused on Santana’s recovery.
Alderson said, “We expect to see him at spring training, and he should be ready to go at that point. Ultimately the questions are going to be answered in spring training, not beforehand, the answers in terms of his ability to come back and pitch consistently
on normal days’ rest, ability to come back and pitch consistently on normal days. Basically, we’re looking to fill out the bench and maybe the last spot in the bullpen.”
However, both players are essential for the team in the next particular season, but Hairston has more responsibly than Santana due to the Mets extra expectations. The training sessions are yet to start but preparations are already started for a good beginning
to the next regular season.
Last season, the Mets could not perform well down the stretch as they lost too many games failing to qualify for the post-season. However, with new hope and energy, they have a very good chance to show a consistence performance in 2012. It will be interesting
to see what type of impact Hairston can provide the Mets during the 2012 regular season.
