New York Mets rout Minnesota Twins 16-5 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins 16-5 on Friday, April 12 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter at Target Field in Minneapolis.
"You're almost starting to take it for granted," New York Mets manager Terry Collins said. "When you need a big hit, he's going to get it. And he's going to drive in runs when he gets his hit. It's just amazing, one night after the next."
Mets hitters outclassed the Twins upfront pitchers and won the game in style. Vance Worley started the game for the Twins and was hammered with great hits.
He pitched only one inning and received nine runs and seven hits. He also allowed seven earned runs as his ERA went blistering high at10.50.
Worley is a good pitcher in the Twins lineup as he also possesses good career ERA of 3.79 but in this particular game, he looked tired from start of the game and received too many big shots all across the field.
“I'm benefiting from last year. I just tried too hard," John Buck said, recalling his .192 batting average for Miami in 2012. "Now I'm just going up there and trying to hit the ball solid, and good things are happening."
Relief pitcher Pedro Hernandez also performed really bad as he pitched 4.1 innings and received one run along with one earned run and a homer on his 3.86 ERA.
Ryan Pressly pitched 1.2 innings and allowed four runs and two hits. Closer Glen Perkins also disappointed his team as he allowed two runs and two hits on his 4.50 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Twins hitters also could not perform well and lost the game for their team. Only catcher Joe Mauer showed little resistance with his two runs and consistent slugging percentage of .442.
Remaining Twins’ batting lineup just watched the Mets pitchers dominate them throughout the game. Starter Jonathon Niese started the game for the Mets as he showed his class with his consistent 3.57 ERA. Not only Niese, but the entire pitching lineup of
Mets’ proved too good for the Twins.
