New York Mets routed by Miami Marlins 0-13 as Chris Young leaks runs - MLB Update
The starter Chris Young crumbles on the mound as the New York Mets are decimated 0-13 by the Miami Marlins at Citi Field, New York on August 8, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
The entrance of the outfielder Giancarlo Stanton in the line-up all of a sudden changes the whole pattern of the way Miami's offence performs. Without Stanton, it experienced a terrible slump. In almost every game in his absence, the Marlins saw their hitters
struggling to score runs.
However on Wednesday, Miami’s offence offered something which perhaps has not been seen from it since the start of the season.
While New York remained quiet from the other end, Marlins kept experiencing high scoring innings throughout the game.
Their shortstop Jose Reyes opened the account with a home-run, before Stanton followed with the same. However, the latter’s was a two-run home-run.
After the first inning, Marlins stood up again in the fifth. The four runs that they added in that inning made it improbable for New York to bounce back.
Before the Mets can launch a recovery with a couple of home-runs and can bring their score closer to the Marlins’, the latter substantiated their lead with four and two runs in the eighth and ninth respectively.
Meanwhile, Reyes is pleased after hitting the home-run before a crowd which was mocking him. Since he used to play for New York before signing a deal with the Marlins, the fans did not like this and they were booing him.
"I don't hit too many home runs, but when I hit one you know I'm going to enjoy it," Jose said. "It's always good to get a hit in the first inning. I feel more relaxed after that."
Similarly, Stanton is jubilant. He just recently recovered from the injury and therefore getting back to a top-notch form is extremely important for him. In this regard, the two home-runs that he hammered on Wednesday can go a long way.
"It was good to get in a little groove there and hit some balls hard back-to-back," Stanton said. "We were all swinging the bat pretty well and we fed off each other and that's what made it work."
The Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen will like to see the offence start a new journey from now onward and repeats such a performance in the upcoming games.
