New York Mets saw 2012 bring pitching laurels for organisation-MLB Update
New York Mets can thank the year 2012 for giving them some memorable moments.
Their starting pitcher, Johan Santana, threw no-hitter, which has happened for the first time in the franchise history.
Besides Santana, R.A Dickey claimed Cy Young Award from the National League for the Mets.
These two distinctions achieved must be satisfying for the officials of the club.
They can take heart from the fact that their organisation did not end the 2012 season without winning some enviable laurels.
Despite the fact the Mets remained low on the table for the greater of the season, they made headlines time-and-again for good reasons.
They saw their pitcher namely Dickey being discussed as possible All-Star game starter, which was unusual considering they posted a dismal win-loss record as a team.
The controversy that arose after Dickey was not selected for starting the ASG kept the Mets on surface and being talked about by the rest of the teams.
It was unusual because the club, which was not even in the contention to make it to the playoffs, was fetching so much media spotlight.
When Santana completed a no-hitter at the mound against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets returned to the headlines again.
This time they earned even more attention, because they achieved something that none of the pitchers that played for them ever had attained in the past.
Despite the distinctions, the Mets could not win a spot in the playoffs.
They will be looking to make sure they improve in every department of the game and earn heights of success during the upcoming season.
Considering the fact the Mets traded Dickey earlier, it is hard to expect them to maintain the impressive pitching performance for the next year.
Furthermore, they have not included any reliable outfielder on their roster yet, even as the need for the one is pressing.
They lack financial resources, which stops them from pursuing high profile free agents. Resultantly, they have compromised over their 2013 season expedition.
Unless the Mets acquire some outfielders through trades or sign new contracts with free agents, they will enter the next season without fixing loopholes.
It will be interesting to see how 2013 pans out for the organisation.
