New York Mets should give Jose Reyes value – MLB Update
The New York Mets have not been dealing Jose Reyes the way they should have been and it seems that the time to strike a deal with their home-grown All-Star is now virtually over. The ballclub hinted that an offer will be extended once other teams place a
price tag for the 2011 batting champion, but a six-year 90-million-dollar was not what the Mets would have expected as an initial offer for Reyes.
Yes, the Miami Marlins have reportedly offered this contract to Reyes and rumours are rife that Reyes has shown an interest in the offer as well. Nevertheless, the amount of the contract is said to be slightly inflated, but that will not be an issue because
it is still early in the offseason.
Once again, the Mets showed ignorance to Reyes as they showed a video of highlights from team’s history to mark the 50th anniversary of the ballclub. Starting form 1962, the video displayed highlights of all major players, including David Wright,
but there was a brief shot of Reyes, for whom Mets has been a home in Major League Baseball.
Wright was quick to point this out and stressed that the Mets should give him value. On learning about the contract, Wright said, “It seems like Jose is in good spirits and why wouldn’t you be?” said Wright, who has remained in contact with Reyes. “You’d
like to think that he’d give the Mets a chance to hear them out and hear exactly what the Mets would like to do. I guess I’m hoping he gives the Mets that chance and the Mets value him the way I do.”
Prior to the end of this season, the management and fans were satisfied on the thought of having the likes of Reyes and Wright in the line-up. It was highly believed that the team will go the extra mile in a bid to keep both players on the roster and thus
build a winning combination around them.
With Reyes virtually gone, Wright is on the verge of leaving the ballclub and it is only a matter one good offer before the latter parts ways.
