New York Mets show interest in Colorado Rockies second-baseman Eric Young Jr. – MLB News
Finally, the New York Mets have showed their interest in Colorado Rockies’ second-baseman and outfielder, Eric Young Jr., after taking so much time. Though, the Mets management has not said anything publically but an inside Major League source has confirmed
that some top executives from the Mets’ franchise are vastly interested in Young Jr., who played tremendously throughout the last season.
Young Jr. went with hitting average of .247 along with 10 RBIs and .342 OBP while his career hitting average remained consistent at .246 with 19 RBIs and .324 OBP.
Recently, when the Mets manager and general manager attended this year’s annual winter meeting in Milwaukee, they both were pretty sure that the Mets are now done dealing with other MLB free agents and no extra player would be coming for next season.
For instance, this was somehow appreciated by many as already the Mets management is facing poor financial conditions this offseason and without a proper outfielder and second-baseman, it would be very difficult for the club to impress in the next season.
This deal, in many experts’ view, is looking very certain as the Mets will agree to pay whatever the Rockies are going to ask. The Mets are desperate for Young Jr. at the moment and in a very little time, they also have to make a decision as the free agency
period and trade deadline is going to end soon.
If the Rockies agreed to send their outfielder in the Mets roster, sources are speculating that this deal will involve the Mets’ left-hander pitcher, Jon Niese. However, Niese’s involvement in this potential trade is still not confirmed by any source. Despite
the fact that the New York Mets are now planning to compete well against their city rivals, the New York Yankees, in the next season, they have yet to come up with a viable strategy to outdo them on the baseball field.
Including a talented player in the roster will somewhat boost their chances to stay on top against their local rivals but to sustain their performance in the longer run, they need some extra thrust from the entire existing roster as well.
