New York Mets sign former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Adam Loewen to minor-league deal -MLB Update
The New York Mets have signed former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher turned outfielder, Adam Loewen, to a minor league deal on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, announced the team after the news broke out through a number of news agencies covering the Major League Baseball.
Loewen was demoted to the minor leagues, where he spent nearly three seasons and showing a worth enough performance, he landed himself back in the MLB, this time around with the New York Mets.
"To think about how far that guy has come to get back to this level is amazing," longtime Minor League teammate David Cooper said in an interview earlier in September. "It's unreal. I remember when he first made the transition, and it's night and day. It's
amazing how quickly he's picked up hitting."
The Mets had placed left-handed outfielder, Willie Harris, on reserve and were looking for a replacement for some time and according to some analysts, they finally may have found one if Loewen can manage to maintain the momentum he showed while playing in
the minors.
The 27-year-old was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2002 draft and has been going back and forth between the minor leagues and the MLB ever since, but is hoping to stay in the major league this time around.
He is most known for his performance with the Toronto Blue Jays where he registered an .884 OPS and 17 home runs in Triple-A last season.
At the moment, he can play the left outfield, but is viewed by the New York Mets as being capable enough to play all three positions when needed.
Loewen also has experience with playing for Las Vegas in the Pacific Coast League, with whom he hit .306 with 46 doubles, 17 home runs and 85 runs.
The financial terms and conditions of the deal between the Mets and Adam Loewen have not been disclosed thus far, but it is certain that the veteran player will try his best to reach the performance he once showed to the league back with Toronto, but only
time will tell if he is up for the challenge or not.
