New York Mets starter R. A. Dickey still seeking extension – MLB Update
The New York Mets and starting pitcher R.A. Dickey are experiencing some complex relationship. Both sides earlier were agreed on a potential extension for next two years, but lately when Dickey and his agent started receiving several offers from some leading Major League teams, their stance slightly changed.
However, the Mets find it little harder to agree as now they have been trying to trade Dickey along with an extension with his new employer. Earlier news also came out in the media that this past season’s National League Cy Young winner has agreed with the New York Mets with two-year $26 million potential extension.
For many this is still a complex situation in which New York Mets and Dickey both are trying really hard to achieve desired outcome. The Toronto Blue Jays are in for-front to bring in Dickey for next several seasons as well. They recognise Dickey’s worth and want him to be part of their roster.
The Mets and Blue Jays are also recently agreed to a principle seven-player trade. According to sources, the New Mets potentially will receive catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and Josh Thole.
“When people say, ‘It’s business, it’s not personal,’ that just means it’s not personal for them, It can be personal for me,” Dickey said recently and explained in the media about his recent extension issues with the Mets and his potential trade to the Blue Jays.
One evaluator said for Mets new pitching prospects, “I liked him, but he was third in the Eastern League on my list as far as catchers,”. “He’s defensively solid and he’s got some power, but to be honest I wasn’t overly impressed with the guy.”
Some say if this does happen in the coming days, it will create a huge impact on both sides. Especially, the Blue Jays are having a roller-coaster ride in this offseason. They have recently added Mark Buehrle from Miami Marlins and now with R.A. Dickey’s potential arrival in the league, the Blue Jays will be stronger than ever to compete against the leading Major League Baseball teams.
