New York Mets stun Chicago Cubs 17-1 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets’ stunned Chicago Cubs 17-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, June 27 at Wrigley Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
This win did not make any impact on the result of the series which was already won by the Cubs as they defeated the Mets in first two games.
However, this particular win did give a great shock to the Cubs as they defeated them by a big margin.
Daniel Murphy and David Wright erupted with great hitting and literally won the game for the Mets.
Both scored two runs each while their total of nine RBIs contribution also proved wonderful for the Mets.
"The biggest thing I was happy with was a two-out RBI in a one-run ballgame, I feel like that team over there is very scrappy and if we let them hang around, they've shown they will make us pay." Murphy said.
Later the Mets' manager Terry Collins commented about his team’s combined effort, "We haven't had a lot of days were we had multiple guys in the lineup come up big, We kind of thought going into spring training we would have more of those. Hopefully, it's something that continues. If this was a team that had huge expectations, it could bother you, Because we weren't expected to be very good.”
Jonathon Niese proved helping hand as he tossed seven innings and received only one run on eight hits. He also struck-out six batters as his ERA remained 3.55.
Jeff Samardzija and Casey Coleman however, could not pitch in right areas and combined hit with 16 runs which proved disastrous for the Cubs.
Samardzija pitched 4.1 innings and received nine runs, six hits and nine earned runs. He was only able to strike-out one hitter as his ERA rose to 5.05 in no time.
Coleman came as relief pitcher but he was hit with enormous power in just 1.2 innings. He received six hits, seven important runs and seven earned runs while his ERA also rose to 7.32 which ultimately made things more complicated for the Cubs who lost in the end by a big margin.
