New York Mets third base David Wright to wait for contract extension – MLB News
The New York Mets’ third baseman David Wright is still to get contract extension as some complications have appeared due to the player and his agent’s mutual consent.
Wright’s agent has still to comment on the latest saying of Mets’ offer while until he makes any suggestion to his client, Wright’s extension will take some time.
However, some news is coming in the media that Mets’ general manager Sandy Alderson is quite sure that David Wright’s contract issue will be resolved soon. His comments also suggested that currently the Mets are playing inconsistent game and until his team
gets back on track, the management will wait for Wright’s contract extension.
“I don’t want to infer that we will make an offer [or] we won’t make an offer, We expect to talk to his agent this season. We can talk about a lot of things that would come up short of an offer, I’m not trying to suggest that we’re going to make one or not
make one or what have you.” Alderson said in detail.
He added, “I’ve said we’d like to have David here long-term. I stand by that statement, but I just want to make sure the record is clear.”
David Wright is a talented player and possesses some huge baseball experience. He has been playing in the Mets’ franchise since 2004 and never let them down with his consistent performance.
His contract extension issue is lingering since the start of 2012 Major League Baseball season. Though the Mets’ had told the media during this year’s Spring Training as he will certainly get an extension, but as the season has started, the Mets are still
taking extra time to evaluate his past performances.
Wright is considers to be a role player in the Mets roster and has also won many awards including five-time All Star selection along with two-time Gold Glove award winner, two-time silver slugger and two-time National League Player of the Month.
He is currently playing with a hitting average of .365 along with five homers, 30 RBIs and .463 OBP. Looking at his past performances and current playing averages, experts believe that David Wright should be in the Mets’ roster for next couple of years and
should be given a potential contract extension.
