New York Mets’ third-baseman David Wright awaits future deal – MLB News
As soon as the 2012 Spring Training Camps come close, every Major League team is getting ready for the competition. From trade to arbitration, many teams have somewhat solved their issues and are now totally focused on the next season.
However, some teams are still looking for ways to resolve their internal matters including team options on players. Lately reports are coming that a similar kind of issue is giving some hard time to New York Mets and their general manager Sandy Alderson.
Alderson is slight worried over third-baseman David Wright and their next year’s $16 million team options, who is still waiting for his future with the Mets’ organization.
Mets’ GM Alderson said of Wright, “I think that his future is independent of club performance. There are certain decisions that one takes that are a function of where a team is at a particular time and so forth, but if there’s anybody on the team whose performance and future is independent of the club’s performance, I think its David’s.”
He added, “I hate to make comparisons to Jose because he’s not here right now, so I’m not sure that would be a good basis for comparison.”
Playing a full last season, Wright was one of the few Mets’ player who performed relatively well and achieved consistent stats. He was good against relievers hitting an average of .254 along with 14 home-runs, 61 RBIs and .345 OBP.
His stats were also slightly better when some experts compared it with every other Mets’ hitter. Overall the Mets’ were disorganized with their poor start to finish. They did not compete with full energy losing many games down the stretch in the regular season.
Some say that was the least achieved season for the Mets in their recent history. However, despite the fact that the team was not up-to the mark, David Wright stood tall against every major opponent and played with full energy. In the meanwhile, now this is good chance for the Mets’ to decide soon on their third-baseman’s future and giving him a more optimistic reason to stay with them.
