New York Mets’ third-baseman David Wright expects good results in 2012 - MLB News
The New York Mets’ third baseman David Wright is expecting some increased competitiveness within the team that will eventually help them show a good result in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Mets’ were certainly humiliated during the 2011 MLB regular season where they played poorly and did not show any fighting spirit as they lost many games down the stretch. They were ousted on many occasions and could not find the level of competitiveness they are famous for. They were unable to qualify for the postseason and finished the season with bitter embarrassment.
Now the Mets’ third-baseman, Wright, who was injured last year during the middle of the season, is speaking in the media with sheer confidence as his team will certainly come up with some new self-assurance. The team will be making new strategic approaches to counter their opponents next season.
He explained his own fitness and related directly to his franchise and their consistent good results. Wright said, “I feel strong. It’s just an extra couple of minutes a day when I’m doing my [workout] routine. I think I thought I needed to become more of a complete hitter, which to me meant pulling the ball more. When I have success, it’s when I spray the ball all over the park. It was important that I got through a whole offseason to kind of strengthen it.”
He added, “When you get halfway or three-quarters of the way through season, it’s tough to build up that area. This offseason allowed me to build up the muscles around the bone that fractured.”
Playing 104 games, Wright was able to achieve batting average of .254 and .427 slugging percentage. These batting stats were his career low as compared to his seven years .300 hitting average and .380 OBP.
In the meanwhile, this is also a good sign as the Mets’ players have started preparing hard before training sessions and by the time the next season starts, they will be all set to achieve their desired goals.
