New York Mets’ third baseman David Wright to rest sore rib – MLB News
The New York Mets third-baseman David Wright, who has recently recovered from a stress fracture in his lower back, is once again going into a week’s rest to relax his rib muscles which constantly causing pain since his arrival in the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training.
The Mets’ manager Terry Collins also indicated in the media and explained with quite detail as he will not put pressure on Wright to start practicing in this year’s training camps instead he must take some rest and relax his rib muscles before the season opener on April 6.
“He said there is no pain at all,” Collins said. “There’s no discomfort at all, so those are all great signs, and he admitted today, ‘I think it was a really good move that we slowed this down. We always adjust, but I don’t see him playing until the start of next week at the earliest. I need to let know let the players get to the dugout before you shake their hand with them, you don’t have to go meet them at the foul line. He was very excited.”
Last season, Wright put up a good show despite receiving multiple warnings from the team doctors that if he continued playing; he might get some more serious troubles with his fracture in his lower back. However, he achieved batting average of .254 along with 14 home-runs, 61 RBIs and .345. On the other hand, his overall career batting average of .300 with 183 home-runs, 725 RBIs and .380 OBP is also very promising compared to his other team-mates in the Mets' roster.
Having almost eight years of professional playing experience, Wright has played his entire career with the New York Mets. His early arrival and recovery will be a good sign for the Mets, who are going into this season with great optimism after pulling out humiliated in 2011. Though, news is coming as Wright will rest his rib only for a week, but if this rest prolonged, the Mets’ desire of getting good results early in the season, might not be achieved.
