New York Mets to keep paying David Wright until 2025-MLB Update
David Wright will wait until 2025 for complete reimbursement of the $138 million that he is supposed to earn from the New York Mets.
Besides, the interest on the money, which is to be paid after the contract expiry, is not included in the yearly outflows beyond 2020.
Wright has acceded to all this, despite knowing that the value of his money will decline down the line.
He is happy due to his being in the organisation and assured to be ending his career from there.
Wright always wanted to wind up his Major League journey with the Mets. His recent eight-year agreement with them is going to ensure this.
What pleases Wright the most is the knowledge that he has joined the list of a few players, who began and completed their careers with only one organisation.
Being mentioned along with the likes of Chipper Jones, who stayed with the Atlanta Braves throughout his career, is an honour for Wright.
Wright was outstanding for New York during the 2012 season. By the dint of his consistent shows at the plate, he secured his name on the All-Star game roster.
Apart from this, he was the only player who could strike some hits for the team, while the rest of the batters suffered lengthy spells of slumps.
By the time the offseason began for New York, their top management had two important tasks to perform.
These were the contract renewals of Wright and Dickey. While they are done with Wright, Dickey remains to be locked up by the club for the seasons beyond 2013.
The financial limitations of the Mets disallow them to spend money freely. Their silence in the free agent market even as they have needs in the outfield reflects budgetary constraints of the club.
Against this backdrop, it is understandable that they are finding it hard to meet the demands of Dickey.
Dickey fancies around $31million for a three-year deal but the Mets want him to agree on $25 million, as per the sources.
Regardless of what is going to happen with Dickey, Wright will be looking to reward the faith of the organisation in him and put up standout shows next year.
