New York Mets triumph over Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 - MLB Update
The New York Mets put in a good performance to defeat Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 in the last of the three game series at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 9.
Grabbing the second win of the series, the Mets effectively won it after suffering a terrible defeat just the night before. The Mets were out for revenge which they surely got, as catcher Josh Thole said, "That was the talk last night, we can't let what
happened last night get us down. We knew we were going to be in for a battle."
The Mets seem to be on their way up given that this victory marks the fourth win for the team in its last five games and they have already won back-to-back when facing the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jon Niese was the pitcher from the Mets side and he was fantastic in the seven and two third innings that he pitched. Niese sacrificed a single run off three hits when he was on the mound. He managed to retire the first 11 Brewer’s batters that came to face
him.
Niese has once again had a career high eight strike-outs. Out of the eight he struck-out seven came courtesy of his curve ball which marks the highest throughout the current Major League Baseball season.
Collectively the Mets stole three bases and were flawless in the six attempts since the series started.
Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo faced some tough resistance from the Mets who were successful in bringing an end to his six game winning streak over which he has an ERA of 1.32. Gallardo sacrificed 10 hits to pass him by.
Ruben Tejada was the first one to single from New York’s side as Jason Pridie scored in the second inning. The fourth inning saw Pridie belt out a sacrifice fly as Angel Pagan scored.
The Brewers managed to squeeze in a run of their own in the fourth innings as Prince Fielder doubled and Ryan Braun scored. This was the only run that came from the Brewers side in the entire duration of the game, highlighting their terrible offence.
The fifth inning saw two more runs come from the Mets. The first one was courtesy of Jim Turner who scored after Daniel Murphy’s single to left-field.
Pagan once again singled off which Carlos Beltran scored this time around effectively clinching the victory for his team.
