New York Mets win 6-5 against Toronto Blue Jays as Mike Baxter shines on the plate - MLB Update
Starter Dillon Gee strikes out six as the New York Mets go past the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on May 20, 2012 in third game of the three match series at Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario.
First inning run-spree by the Mets helped them throughout the game. Despite a strong reply Blue Jays had managed, the Mets were unfazed.
The Mets had 12 hits from their offence in the game.
Starter Henderson Alvarez bore the brunt of the Mets’ onslaught. He was slammed nine hits in the game. Therefore he became greatest reason for the Blue Jays’ defeat.
Right fielder Mike Baxter stood out in the Mets’ line-up. By making three hits in four at-bats, he has taken his batting average to .390.
"It crossed my mind, but I didn't really want to get away from what I've been doing," Baxter said. "I just want to try and keep the same approach. I don't want to start messing with it."
Third baseman, David Wright relishes the moments of glory as every game he is playing is resulting in a rise of his batting average. He went 2-for-4 in the game as he contributed two RBIs and drew one walk.
Gee threw quality innings and struck-out six. He gave up three runs in little more than six innings and recorded his third win in the season.
Far from what Gee wanted, on number of occasions he struggled for hitting right spot in the strike-zone.
He was prone to give away flurry of runs at-times. He expressed surprise on ending up as a winner at the end of the game, despite sub-par show on the mound.
"I was all over the place today," Gee said. "Last game I felt great and I gave up seven runs. Today I felt terrible, like I couldn't throw a strike, and I give up three. I don't know. It's a crazy game."
Ever since season has started, the Mets have been standing at third position on table for most part. They had their chances to build long winning streak and reach top position.
While offence has supported them almost every time, if they can manage to draw something similar from pitchers consistently, they can improve their standing on the table.
