New York Mets wish to see Omar Minaya back as advisor
The New York Mets have made it to the headlines again. The team has made a call of hope to see Omar Minaya back in the management board again. The once general manager of the Mets has been the focus of some attention in the media
following his discharge from service in October, 2010. The club is leaving the door open for the former general manager to join the club as an advisor.
The New York Mets hired Sandy Alderson for the position of general manager when the club and Omar parted ways amicably. In the light of a financial problem surfacing in the team, there were budget cuts and that is how things looked
in the playoffs. The weak activity in the winter break season saw low cost players joining the squad.
Whatever the case may be, Sandy has been in touch with Minaya and the two met this month to talk about undisclosed matters. Alderson talked lightly of the incident but he was able to say that Omar could join the side in some capacity.
Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon was vocal about the former general manager as he went on to praise Minaya. He further mentioned that Omar could come in as a “senior advisor or special assistant” looking on to scouting activities.
"I think Omar is a very good man and a good person also," Wilpon told reporters. "I think the right position for Omar in this organization would be helpful - to Omar and to the organization."
However, Alderson sees the chances of Omar rejoining the Mets as an unlikely reality as the prospect of a lesser role appears less attractive.
"If you look at it from Omar's perspective, coming back to the organization will require a certain adjustment from his standpoint: psychologically, emotionally," Alderson said. "He's got a lot of investment here. Coming back and
interacting in a difference capacity is a change. I think anybody would need time to adjust to that. I don't think you should read anything into what has happened so far."
The team will be facing tough competition in the National League from the likes of the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals and the Florida Marlins in the East division. It will be interesting to see how
well the club performs in 2011.
