Parsons Blvd, its in Queens on the orange line. Someone know this place? is this a good place to live? I want Manhattan and its too far away so I found something affordable there. Is this a good solution if I want Manhattan? is that a safe place?

I need some information about this place and would love to hear someones opinion. I'm a young person that want to live in a fun place but can't afford Manhattan, what do you think?

  1. Right at the station, it's pretty busy, and maybe not the greatest in terms of safety over a full 24-hour period.

Go a few blocks off of Parsons Blvd. and Hillside Ave, though, and it's not all that bad.  Then, you're getting up near St. John's University, and getting a little closer to Jamaica Estates.

My take?  If you can go even a bit farther out along Hillside Avenue, past the end of the F train, it might be a bit better.  The Q43 and numerous other buses will take you to the train, and the neighborhoods get better as you go farther north and east.

EDIT: I can't say for sure whether the crime is high there, but my gut says that the closer you get to downtown Jamaica, the higher the crime rate.  Again, I don't have statistics in front of me, so I'm not certain.  Overall, it's not too bad over there, when compared to some other neighborhoods in this city.  There are better parts, and there are worse parts.

EDIT: Look around at other parts of Queens as well!  Brooklyn and Queens are pretty similar; they both have their great neighborhoods, and they both have their terrible neighborhoods.  The thing is, Brooklyn's worst neighborhoods are really, REALLY bad.  Again, you haven't picked a terrible place, I'm just saying that there are better parts of Queens.

  2. I wouldn't recommend it.  The area around the train station is dirty, smelly and there are constantly kids cutting school and making trouble.  That train station is also not far from where Sean Bell and his friends were shot repeatedly by the police on the eve of his wedding.

  3. Parson's Blvd is a very long avenue and cuts through the heart of queens,  Some parts of it are very nice, like in the Flushing/Whitestone area, Some parts, not so much, like the southern end by Jamaica Avenue.  The only area that i can think of that would have thje benefie of a close proximity to transportation and still be in a nice area would be around Northern Blvd. Between Northern and 14th ave you can get a bus ,Q44, to take you to the #7 train.  From Northern south for a few blocks you are within a long walk of the same train. And over by 48th ave there is also a bus connection to the #7.
