New York Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist will play Game 3 against Boston Bruins – NHL Playoffs
All eyes were on New York as reports emerged after Game 2 that Rangers veteran goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, was not in a position to appear in their crucial Game 3 at home due to an undisclosed shoulder injury.
Luckily, Lundqvist was practicing on Monday and put to rest all rumours of his absence the following day, as New York looks to break Boston’s 2-0 lead.
After falling on the ice during Game 2, reports suggested that New York may potentially be playing without their top goalie, seriously hindering any hope of making a comeback in the series. He kept playing in
the game after taking some extra time to get back and make sure he was not seriously hurt, but that did not give any rest to the rumour mill.
"It's under control," Lundqvist said after practice Monday, according to NHL.com. "I landed on the ice awkwardly and it hurt a little bit. It's under control."
The playoffs are a tough time for everyone and Lundqvist, no matter how many years of experience he has in the postseason, knows that not getting enough rest and time off makes players more prone to injuries.
"Everybody is sore," Lundqvist added. "It's the playoffs; you can't just sit out if it's hurting a little bit. It happens and you just have to make sure you maintain and you do the right things to keep it good."
Being down 0-2 in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs Semifinals is one thing but the biggest weakness for New York at this point is how they lost by giving up five goals in the previous
matchup. Rangers managed to pot just two, while Lundqvist was held to be the culprit in letting five slide past him.
"It's disappointing to give up five goals, but also positioning-wise and reading the plays, for the most part it was good," Lundqvist stated. "They made some good plays, too. And then there were some unlucky
bounces and screens.”
Game 3 is set to begin on Tuesday in New York at the Madison Square Garden at 7:30 PM ET.
