New York Rangers' Marian Gaborik out for 5-6 month with shoulder injury -NHL Update
After being eliminated from the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs, New York Rangers disclosed the list of players suffering injuries, of which veteran forward, Marian Gaborik, was probably the most affected requiring a shoulder injury.
Gaborik underwent reconstructive shoulder surgery on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in order to repair a torn labrum. New York Rangers came out on Friday to announce that the player will be sidelined for 5-6 six months at least in order to achieve a full recovery.
It is also believed that he sustained the injury while playing against Ottawa Senators in the first round of the playoffs somewhere between Game 3 and 4. It obviously grew as the player neglected pain to continue performing, but now has time to recover.
Gaborik was under intense heat from critics that termed his performance to be not up-to-par, which is something he believes was not entirely due to the shoulder injury, but it was definitely a factor in it.
"It's frustrating. It is what it is," Gaborik said. "I just have to focus on getting back healthy and being ready to go.”
"I know I could've played better. I don't think it affected me that much. It was just weak. During the game, the adrenaline kicks in and everything goes to the side. Shooting, my shot wasn't there, obviously, but I don't want to make excuses. I tried to
put it aside and focus on playing. It wasn't just me -- a lot of guys were banged up. You just try not to think about it and go out there and do your best," he added.
The 30-year-old had 76 points (41 goals, 35 assists) in the 2011-2012 NHL regular season with a plus-minus rating of 15. He played well in the postseason, but could have been better than the 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) he had in the 20 playoff games.
It is not sure whether Marian Gaborik will be healthy and ready-to-go in time for the next hockey year, but will eventually join the team sometime later in November or even December of 2012.
