New York Rangers' coach John Tortorella regards stats as “That's a bunch of c**p” -NHL Playoffs Update
New York Rangers are on their way to grabbing a Stanley Cup championship according to fans of the Blue Shirts, but observers think otherwise since no team in National Hockey League (NHL) history has managed to win the cup after taking the first two series
to seven games.
Upon hearing those stats, New York Rangers’ head coach, John Tortorella, proved why he is known as the most determined coach in the league by terming them as “That’s a bunch of c**p”.
Seeing how his statement came before Rangers completely shutout New Jersey Devils, 3-0, in Game 1 of the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Playoff Finals, Tortorella was definitely not joking.
Another thing that really irked Tortorella was the fact that some analysts were of the view that New York would be a tired and fatigued club going into the Eastern Conference Finals, seeing how they had just one day to rest before facing New Jersey Devils.
"I don't know where you guys get all this stuff being tired. If we're tired this time of the year, there's something the matter," Tortorella said. "We still have a month to play. You might as well not even ask me questions about being tired. We're not a
tired hockey club. We are ready to play."
New York actually proved that New Jersey Devils had gotten rusty from all that rest, which was more than a week of not having played after eliminating Philadelphia Flyers in just five games.
Now, Rangers are not only depending on their forwards to get some goals on a hot New Jersey goalie, Martin Brodeur, but their getting defensemen involved in the action as well with Henrik Lundqvist guarding the net.
"There's no excuse to be tired and that doesn't matter to us," said Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi. "It might be better for us to come back and play another game instead of sitting around trying to think about it. They came out hard and fresh and I thought
we did a good job of trying to match their intensity.”
New York Rangers and John Tortorella are very confident and the moment and are determined to set new records as they make a run for the Stanley Cup full forced.
