New York Rangers Barely Stay Alive with 4-3 win over Boston Bruins - NHL Playoffs Update
Fans had their hopes on a comeback and the Rangers surely did not disappoint them, as they strived till the end, stayed alive in the series and downed Boston Bruins for the first time in the series with a 4-3
win in overtime.
Boston was expecting to go into the Madison Square Garden in New York City and completely whitewash the Rangers with a fourth straight victory but the home team knew that this could possibly be something they
would regret forever.
After a great rebound in the final 20 minutes of regulation by the New York Rangers, Chris Kreider took charge and showed he was invaluable to the home team by potting his first of the 2013 National Hockey League
(NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs to win the game in overtime.
The momentum was down and New York was demoralised after having lost three straight to the Bruins but this win is surely the one that will get the need for winning back up and running in the Rangers.
"I told the guys before the game there was no way we were losing this game," Lundqvist said. "We want to keep playing. We owe it to ourselves, to our fans. All our focus today was just on this game. Now we move
our focus to the next game and the first period of that game. We will see how far that takes us."
"I was lucky enough to play with Rick," Kreider added. "Just trying to go hard to the net. He's such a talented player. He was able to find my tape, and I tried to put it on net."
Lundqvist was also performing top notch as he faced 40 shots and managed to block 37 of those attempts, while his rival on the other end, Tuukka Rask, had 32 fired on his net and failed to stop four of those.
Nathan Horton and Torey Krug of Boston score back-to-back in the second period, putting New York down by two but a goal of confidence by Carl Hagelin to end it gave the home team a reason to stay alive. Derek
Stepan picked up the pace and levelled it 1:15 into the third. Boston’s top rookie got the tie-breaker at 8:06 for his first of the playoffs but Brian Boyle quick thinking on a power play midway through allowed the Rangers to keep it coming.
Game 5 is in Boston between the Bruins and Rangers on Saturday at 5:30 PM ET.
