New York Rangers Rick Nash injured in Switzerland, no damage to Shoulder -NHL Update
The New York Rangers got a bit of a scare recently as one of their leading forwards, Rick Nash, was reportedly injured over the weekend while playing in Switzerland during the National Hockey League (NHL) lockout.
Luckily, the veteran forward and former Columbus Blue Jackets captain’s shoulder was not damaged after it was assessed following an MRI exam after facing the injury during a match for Davos of the Swiss league on Friday, September 28, 2012.
"Rick was taken out of the game for precautionary measures and will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days," Nash's agent Joe Resnick said, according to The Sports Network.
Nash signed on board with HC Davos earlier this month after the NHL lockout came into play and was just nine minutes into the matchup that he got smashed into the glass by the opposition and could not play any further.
The 28-year-old is a former first overall draft pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets and is signed on for another team, the New York Rangers, for the first time in his career.
Spending the majority of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Rick Nash has accumulated a total of 674 games under his belt with 547 points, consisting of 289 goals and 258 assists, along with an impressive 568 minutes in the penalty box.
Nash has a history of being an extremely physical and competitive player who does not get injured much, but sooner or later, some of that physicality can come to hurt the player on his quest for stardom.
He was certainly one of the most watched candidates during the offseason as the captain wanted to leave the Columbus Blue Jackets after failing to lead the team significantly. In his tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which almost last a decade, Nash
was able to make the playoffs with the club just once back in 2009, but that run lasted just four games as the team was cleanly swept.
