New York Rangers Rick Nash returns to New York after Groin Injury -NHL Update
Rick Nash had a great run with Swiss hockey league club, HC Davos, up until now as the new addition to the New York Rangers injured his groin during an exhibition matchup and is now reportedly back in New York to have it checked out and assessed.
The 28-year-old is a former captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets and was traded to the New York Rangers during the offseason due to a demand to move on to a team that would be better for his career. Nash spent nine seasons with his original draft team and
managed to make the playoffs just once in that timeframe, which is why he considered a move would be better for both sides interests.
According to the New York Post, Nash is back in New York due to “precautionary reasons” and will be examined by the team’s medical staff in the upcoming days in order to ensure nothing serious will occur if the player continues to play.
It is not sure at the moment whether he will be returning to the foreign club during the lockout as there seems to be no end in sight to the work stoppage, but most likely, if cleared by the medical staff and keeping in view the deadlock, Nash just may make
the return.
Nash is former first overall draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in round-one of the 2002 National Hockey League (NHL) entry draft and has 674 games played under his belt with 289 goals, 258 assists for a total of 547 points and 568 minutes in penalty
time.
Rick Nash potted three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in the four playoff games he participated with Columbus back in 2009 and has not managed to lead the team to the postseason ever since.
The Canadian left winger is currently on a eight-year contract, which the New York Rangers took over after their trade, worth a total of $62.4 million and giving him an annual salary cap hit of $7.8 million. Rick Nash will become an unrestricted free agent
after the 2017-2018 NHL regular season comes to an end.
