New York Rangers aiming to crush Philadelphia Flyers – NHL Preview
The dominant New York Rangers are leading the National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference and they would surely want to retain the position as they travel to play Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Rangers have 73 points after 52 games and are in an exploding form.
They have not lost two straight games from around two months now and have won three of their last four games.
In their last game, Rangers faced Tampa Bay Lightning in what became an exciting matchup towards the end.
Tampa Bay scored a goal in the first period to take the lead, which was taken away by Rangers in the second period by scoring two goals.
However, Tampa Bay regained the lead by scoring two more goals in the same period.
Rangers scored the only goal of the final period to level the score and force the game to overtime where Brad Richards scored to give Rangers the victory.
Rangers’ goalie, Martin Biron, said after the game:
“Obviously, it's not perfect for 60 minutes, but the results are there. We just have to tighten up a couple of things and move forward."
The Flyers can give a tough time to Rangers as the former is also eyeing the playoff spot.
Philadelphia is ranked at fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 69 points after 54 games, but its recent performances have not been very commendable.
Philadelphia has not been able to win two straight games in its last 12 games and it recently defeated Toronto Maple Leafs to snap a three-game losing streak.
Flyers took the lead in the first period against Toronto and never got down.
Toronto tried desperately in the second period to overcome Philadelphia and scored two goals very early, but the scoring move was always responded by another scoring move from Flyers.
The final score of the game settled at 4-3.
Philadelphia has two tough games ahead.
After Rangers, it is going to take on Detroit Red Wings.
Flyers’ Claude Giroux said about the future games:
"This weekend's gonna be a good test for us to see where we stand. Detroit is one of the best teams in the league and so are the Rangers, so guys are pretty excited for the weekend and we gotta make sure we get our rest because it's gonna be a tough one."
New York has an edge over Philadelphia and it just needs to be strong on offence to get a victory.
