New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets trade Rick Nash in a five-player deal –NHL Update
Rick Nash’s destination has finally been revealed as Columbus Blue Jackets made a deal involving exchange of five players, one first round pick and one conditional third round pick.
New York Rangers were after Rick Nash for the last five months, since February, and wanted to close that deal in previous transfer agency but could not get it done before the deadline so they had to wait up until now to get their target.
The Rangers have to give their forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, defenseman Tim Erixon and their first-round pick in the 2013 NHL draft.
In return Columbus Blue Jackets will give their captain and forward, Rick Nash, defenseman Steven Delisle and one conditional third-round pick. If New York Rangers are successful in making it into the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals, Columbus Blue Jackets will keep their third-round pick.
Rick Nash was very happy to get this deal done at last and said that the five-month period was a tough time. He is also looking forward to next year as he said,
"There was a lot of limbo for sure. It was a tough time and a tough period of five months. But the thing now is it's over and I can look forward to next year."
New York Rangers’ general manager, Glen Sather, is also excited to have a forward like Rick Nash in his team and thinks it would have been a very tough decision for Columbus Blue Jackets’ General Manager Scott Howson to trade him and this type of decisions take time.
The 68-year-old former NHL player, who himself played for six different teams is also hopeful that Rick Nash will help them by scoring goals as he said,
"We're happy to have a five-time All-Star on our team and a 40-goal scorer and a guy that's only 28 years old. He's one of the better goal scorers in the National Hockey League and he'll help us immensely. These things take a long time to get negotiated. It takes a long time for a team that's trading a player like this”.
Ever since he started his NHL career, 28-year-old Rick Nash has only played for Columbus Blue Jackets as he played nine seasons for them, scoring 289 goals, 258 assists and total number of 547 points in 674 games.
