New York Rangers defeat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 – NHL Recap
The New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1 at the Scotiabank Place on Friday. The game was important for the Rangers, as they looked to cement a strong hold on their National Hockey League play-off spot, as they slipped to the eight spot in the
standings. The Senators were looking to notch up a win for consolation purposes as their play-off dreams have come to an end.
The Rangers were on top of their game, as they came up with very strong pieces of play. The Rangers scored the lone goal of the second period and two more in the second to lead by 3-0, as the final period started. The final 20 minutes of the game saw both
teams scoring, but it was the Rangers who won the game 4-1 in the end. Henrik Lundqvist, goal-keeper of the Rangers, was named the Star of the Game, as they made 28 saves.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them coming across chances and constructing some brilliant pieces of play. As the strong offensive play was taking place, a goal was surely on the way. Though it took some time coming, a goal was finally
scored in the 11th minute, as the Rangers took the lead.
The goal was scored by Vinny Prospal from a quick fired shot. The plays continued and as did the shots, but unfortunately no goals were scored, as the period ended with the Rangers leading 1-0, as the teams went into the break. During the course of the period
both teams made 8 goal attempts each.
The second period saw the teams coming out and performing similar to the first period. There were missed chances early on, but the Rangers proved their productivity, as they scored once again in the 7th minute to double their lead. The goal was
scored by Mats Zuccarello from a brilliant back-hand shot.
The Rangers managed to come up with a brilliant play after restart which saw them scoring once again in the same minute. The goal was scored by Artem Anisimov from a well placed flick-shot.
The period saw both teams come out aggressive and try a few shots on goal, but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Rangers leading 3-0. During the course of the period, the Senators made 10 goal attempts, as the Rangers managed 9.
The final game of the period saw both teams attacking right from the word go and it was the Rangers who struck first blood in the period, as they scored through Derek Stephan from a well placed flick-shot.
The Senators were able to score as well, but this goal was nothing but a consolation. The goal was scored by Sergei Gonchar during the power-play from a powerful shot in the fifth minute. The period and the game ended with the Rangers winning 4-1. During
the course of the period, the Rangers made 10 goal attempts, as the Senators managed 11.
