New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, new addition Brad Richards give fans high hopes -NHL Update
New York Rangers might not have performed as the team they once were during the past few seasons but it surely is about to change as the franchise has a dynamic duo which is all set to turn around the tables next season when it kicks off in October.
Many might not have realised but New York is on the verge of becoming one of those teams which have a mountain of talent and certainly know how to use it.
Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers' main goalie, is already one of the best goaltenders in the league and now having former Dallas Stars centre player, Brad Richards on the line-up, the scales have just tipped in their favour, big time.
"It was an overwhelming experience", said Richards, talking about what his thoughts were before joining New York Rangers. "This just felt like a good fit. Great young team, great guys. Obviously getting the chance to live in and experience New York City.
It just seemed to all fall together. This organization made me feel the most comfortable".
Both Lundqvist and Richards do not come from a huge hockey family background or anything that has made them bound for greatness, it is just the fact that they are hard working players and have earned every reputable word that is associated with their names.
Lundqvist, a 29-year-old from Are, Sweden, was drafted as the 205th overall pick during round-seven of the 2000 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft and ended last season with one of the league’s highest save percentages (.923), surprisingly
a career high. His latest improvement just shows to go that he is currently working on improving himself.
"My first year I lived outside the city and my focus was just playing hockey", said Lundqvist, talking about his hard work for hockey. "I left everything in Sweden, all my friends and family”.
Richards signed a huge six-year, $90 million deal with Rangers after becoming an unrestricted free agent, following four straight seasons with Dallas. He was the highest ranked free agent this offseason and received offers from many teams around the league.
Rangers have a complete and well-rounded team; it is just up to them now on how they use it.
