New York Rangers lose 3-2 to Atlanta Thrashers to slip to the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference
This was another one of the play-off finishing position battles which was hosted by the Atlanta Thrashers at the Philips Arena as they were up against the New York Rangers. The game expected to be entertaining as both teams wanted to win to maintain a strong
position as they are final two play-off spot finishing teams.
This was the 57th game of the season for both the teams and a win was very crucial for either of the teams at this stage of the season. The scores were level as the final period started. However, Atlanta stepped up their game after falling behind
to come-back and win 3-2 in the end. Evander Kane, winger of the Thrashers was the star player as he made an assist and scored the equalizing and winning goals.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them attacking and defending really well. The passing wasn’t excellent but still was pretty good. The period turned out to be very entertaining as shots were fired from everywhere on the ice.
As the period progressed, the intensity of attacks increased. This resulted in the first goal of the game being scored in the 12th minute. Atlanta with some strong offensively play scored through Anthony Stewart from a superb backhand shot. Both
teams continued to attack and shots kept on being fired on goal regularly.
However, no further goals were scored and the period ended with the Thrashers leading 1-0. During the course of the period both teams made 13 goal attempts each respectively.
New York Rangers started the second period in spectacular fashion and with the Thrashers barely settled, they scored to level the scores. The goal was scored within the first half minute of the period and was scored by Marc Staal during power play.
The crowd was silenced by this stunning goal and Thrashers couldn’t manage the level of game they displayed early on. There were several occasions where it looked that they would get into the lead but Thrashers didn’t allow this as they displayed some strong
work in defence.
The period saw goal attempts regularly, but unfortunately no further goals were scored. The scores at the end of the period was 1-1 with New York Rangers making 9 goal attempts in the period while Atlanta Thrashers made 10 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes were surely to be exciting as the scores were level. New York Rangers got into the lead once again as they scored in the 2nd minute through Brandon Dubinsky. The home crowd was silent for minute after which they backed their
team to attack.
Though it took sometime but the Thrashers successfully scored in the 15th minute through Evander Kane to level the scores through a splendid backhand shot. Both teams went on the attack after this and it was Thrashers who successfully took the
lead.
The goal was scored by Evander Kane once again in the 18th minute this time from another strong backhand shot. Thrashers continued to fire shots on goal but the score line didn’t change. Resultantly, Atlanta Thrashers won the game 3-2 in the end
and made 12 goal attempts in the final period while New York Rangers made 7 goal attempts.
