New York Rangers manage to stay hot with third straight win over Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 -NHL Update
New York managed to stay hot and won their third straight matchup of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as the Rangers rallied in the second period with four straight goals to edge the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, at the sold out Madison
Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.
Former Dallas Stars superstar forward, Brad Richards, had a great run by picking up three points including one goal and two assists, which helped his team stay in the top ranks of the Easter Conference.
"We believe in here that we're capable of winning any night. That's up to you guys if you want to put us in that (elite) category," Richards said, who is now at 19 points in his past 21 games with the New York Rangers. "There are categories every year, predictions,
but there are not too many players in the League that really listen to that. We all just go out and play."
James Neal made his 14th of the season with 2:04 remaining in the opening period for the first of the night on a power play opportunity as the initial 20 minutes were filled with players being penalised for roughing each other up and fighting.
Sean Avery and Tyler Kennedy exchanged fists in the opening two minutes after roughing each other up, which gave them a two minute minor penalty along with a five minute major.
Ryan Callahan scored the equaliser in the first eight minutes of the second period on their first power play advantage of the period, followed by John Mitchell for his first, Brad Richards and finally Marian Gaborik with the deciding shot.
With seven seconds left to play in the second round, Evgeni Malkin potted his ninth to give Pittsburgh another goal but still had them down by two entering the final 20 minutes.
Pascal Dupuis was found open by Sidney Crosby in the third period for his seventh which put Pittsburgh within one of the score with more than 16 minutes remaining, but New York shut them out in the final minutes to take the match.
