New York Rangers’ netminder, Henrik Lundqvist, has admitted facing difficulties in benefiting from rest period during the playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL), saying in spite of all efforts for taking away mind from the game, all mental focus remains
to it.
So, it is less likely for a player to really benefit from the rest of a day or more during this phase due to preoccupation of mind with the preparations and training for next game.
He said:
"I try to not think about the game. I just try to do other stuff.”
He added:
"Today, I start thinking about tomorrow. I come here and practice and work on your game and maybe this afternoon I'll try to get away from it before I go to bed, then coming to the rink tomorrow, it's all business."
Lundqvist still believes that mental rest is more important for a player before a game than physical rest.
He said:
"Yeah, because we want to go for the long run and it's important to save energy when you can. But already it feels like we've been going for a while and I just need to manage focus."
The player said he was ready to face off the Washington Capitals in next game of the playoff semi-finals due to be held at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
Apparently, Lundqvist is said to be not having much experience and exposure to the pressures of Game 7 in the playoffs. He, however, has represented and won gold medal for his home side, Team Sweden.
So his international appearances should add to his overall experience of the game and he looks to be determined to take all the aspects into count and give his best in the game.
He has spoken of his stint in the World Championships and Olympics, saying more or less the approach of the game is similar in all formats and events.
He added when it comes down to bad times, a player can go from highs to lows in seconds, irrespective of his participation in different events of the game.
