New York Rangers re-sign key centre Brandon Dubinsky to four-year $16.8 million contract –NHL Update
New York Rangers enrolled themselves on the list of National Hockey League (NHL) team’s that have avoided salary arbitration hearings by re-signing the players who filed for the enquiry after they inked a four-year, $16.8 million deal with key centre player,
Brandon Dubinsky.
New York made the announcement on Thursday, July 21, only a few hours before the hearing was to begin.
It was suspected that Dubinsky was deliberately not signing with New York and had other teams in mind, but according to him, Rangers are where he wants to stay.
"I wanted to be in New York, it's the place I live, it's the place I love and I want to be here forever", Dubinsky told the New York Post after the signing had been made official. "At the end of the day, I think it's a home run for me. I hope the team feels
the same way".
Dubinsky, a 25-year-old centre from Anchorage, Alaska, United States, was drafted as the 60th overall pick in round-two of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by New York and has remained with the team since 2006. He will now be entering his sixth straight
season as a Ranger.
Over his five season career with New York, Dubinsky had been gradually improving his game-play techniques and has grown in regards of scoring and performance during that timeframe. Being at his peak time, Dubinsky is all set to become even better when the
new season starts in October.
"I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to the season", Dubinsky said. "With all the guys we have coming back plus the signings we've made with Richie [Richards] and Mike Rupp, I think we're going to be a contender in the East; I really feel
that way".
Last season, Dubinsky participated in 77 matchups and scored 54 points (24 goals, 30 assists) along with finishing off with a plus-minus rating of -3. He served 100 penalty minutes last season which just goes to show how physical of a player he really is.
Standing at 6-foot-one, 210lbs, being physical and performing for New York is the young forwards top priority at the moment.
