New York Rangers right wing Ryan Callahan struggles to find net but stays positive-NHL News
No member of the New York Rangers has an apparent and immediate solution to the goal drought of right wing, Ryan Callahan, except for the hope that he himself finds a way out at the earliest.
Callahan, who scored 29 goals in 82 regular National Hockey League (NHL) season games this season, could manage to find net only four times in 17 playoff ties. He has earned just five points in last 13 games as the stalemate phase continues.
Rangers’ head coach, John Tortorella, called the phase that the player is through at the moment as ‘killing’ but ambitiously believes that he is on the “breaking out” point.
The coach said:
"There's a fine line there. He cares, and he wants to help. But, again, he's in a good situation here. He'll find a way."
Despite that the player himself has strong realisation of his slump, he is refusing to allow it to get on his nerve.
After the team’s morning skate at Madison Square Garden on Monday, May 21, as preparations for Game 4 of Eastern Conference playoff finals against the New Jersey Devils, Callahan said:
“It's part of it. You're going to go through stretches, and obviously this time of year you don't want to be going through that, but I think those are the times that you have to make sure that on the other side of the puck you're doing everything you can
to be at your best. That's how you break it."
Fortunate for the player that he was able to score a goal into an empty net in the team’s Game 3, to help them defeat Devils 3-0.
Rangers are in 2-1 lead in the seven-game series and need a pair of wins to confirm them the Conference title.
Amid the situation, the bad form of Callahan is not a good development for the team and can affect their run to the title.
As hoped by the head coach and other members of his team, the player needs to break out of the impasse as quickly as possible to help their victory chances.
