New York Rangers slide past Winnipeg Jets 2-1 -NHL Match Update
New York was close to finishing off a perfect road trip but after winning three straight following a return to North America, Edmonton managed to overpower the veteran team. Luckily, the Rangers bounced back and slide past the Winnipeg Jets, 2-1, on Monday
night, October 24, at the sold-out MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Now, the Rangers will be finally making a comeback to New York after having spent seven straight games on the road since the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season kicked off.
New York Rangers head coach, John Tortorella, is certainly excited about going back home but is also looking forward to improving as a team for the upcoming contests because of all the hard work they did during the offseason in order to make their club a
Stanley Cup contender.
"We're looking forward to going home", Tortorella said. "(We're) happy about that. We still have a lot of work to do to try to play the right way, but in this League, you grab your points and get out of there, because there are probably going to be times
where we play one of our best games and lose".
Ruslan Fedotenko scored the first of the match during round-two on the first power play opportunity of the period. After killing another shorthanded disadvantage with Randy Jones out for tripping with a minor, Winnipeg Jets answered back with Nik Antropov
scoring for his second at the 14:29 mark.
Ryan Callahan potted his second on the only power play chance of the final period of regulation, diverting an uncertain overtime extension and allowing New York to earn those two valuable points.
Despite the loss, Winnipeg head coach, Claude Noel, believes that his team played very well and deserved a better outcome.
"I don't think our players can hang their heads on the effort they gave", Noel said. "I think we probably deserved a better fate. When you look at the difference between winning and losing in the National Hockey League, there is not a lot of difference”.
New York Rangers will play their home season opener on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs while Winnipeg Jets play the final three games of the month on the road starting off with the Philadelphia Flyers the same day.
