New York Rangers win 3-2 against Washington Capitals

Game three of this Eastern Conference clash was hosted by the New York Rangers at the Madison Square Garden on April 17, 2011, that saw them defeating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in the end.
The game was very crucial for the Rangers as they were trailing 2-0 in the series and needed the win to stay in the running.
The game started off on the slower side with both teams reluctant to go on the attack. However, with the passage of time things got better for both the teams.
Unfortunately, there were no goals and the period ended with scores deadlocked on 0-0. The Rangers with the home ice advantage got off to a brilliant start in the second period and scored a goal.
The Capitals were not far behind as they too managed to score and level the scores right at the end. The Rangers scored the opening goal of the final period after which the Capitals successfully levelled the score.
However, the killer blow was struck in the final few minutes when the Rangers scored to win the game 3-2.
Henrik Lundqvist, goalie of the Rangers was named the star of the game as he made23 saves during the game.
The defences of the both teams were very strong at the start of the game and didn’t let any attacks near the goal. There were a few long range shots but they didn’t seem to give the goal keepers a tough time.
With the passage of time, things got better and shots on goal started to come relatively easily. There were a few clear cut scoring chances of both teams but they were not successful in finding the back of the net.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0 with the Rangers making eight shots on goal while the Capitals made seven.
The Rangers started off as the better of the two teams in the second period and they came across a power-play early on. They capitalized from this and scored the opening goal in the sixth minute scored by Erik Christensen from a quick fired shot.
Both teams were continuously firing shots on goal but it was the Capitals, who scored in the final minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Captain, Alex Ovechkin, from a simple tip in shot. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. The Capitals
made seven shots on goal during the period while the Rangers made 11 shots on goal.
The Rangers started the final period brilliantly once again constructing some superb plays that got them into scoring positions every now and then. The Rangers scored in the ninth minute through Vinny Prospal to take the lead.
A few minutes later, the Capitals came across a power-play and scored through Mike Knuble to level the scores. However, it was the Rangers, who sealed the game with a goal in the 19th minute, scored by Brandon Dubinsky, from a backhand shot to
win the game 3-2 in the end.
