New York Rangers win 4-3 against the Carolina Hurricanes
Another one of the important games of Tuesday was hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes as they were up against the New York Rangers at the RBC Centre. Both, the Rangers and the Hurricanes are in seventh and eighth positions in the league respectively.
The Rangers were leading as the final period started but Hurricanes managed to draw the scores level in the dying stages to level the scores on 3-3. The game went into overtime but no goals were scored. Resultantly, the game went into shootout from where
the Rangers emerged as 4-3 winners of the game. Jussi Jokinen of the Hurricanes was named the star selection of the game as he scored two goals and came up with decent performance during the game.
A very strong offensive start was made by both teams. Both the teams are battling to stay in the play-off spot which resulted in them determined to win the game. The Rangers were first to benefit from the start as they scored in the 3rd minute
to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Brandon Prust from a decent strike.
The Rangers continued to pile shots on target with the Hurricanes coming up with shots as well. The home team with the backing of the fans managed to come up with some decent plays. But it was not until the 17th minute that they scored through
Jay Harrison from a brilliant shot to level the scores.
The attacking game continued till the very last second of the period but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period, the Rangers made 18 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 12 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams continuing on the same roads. However, there weren’t as many goal attempts as during the first 20 minutes of play.
Both teams still showed some skill with puck created chances for themselves regularly. The period saw the Rangers getting past the opposing defence regularly but the goalie did an excellent job on not allowing any goals. The Rangers came across a power play
as the period neared its end and scored in the final minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan from a brilliant tip in shot as the period ended with the Rangers leading 2-1. During the period, the Rangers made 11 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 7 goal attempts.
The final period was again a reflection of the first two periods with both teams very strong offensively. However, this time it was the Hurricanes who scored two goals in succession to get into the lead.
Both the goals were scored by Jussi Jokinen from almost similar shots in the 4th and 7th minutes respectively that put the Hurricanes in the lead. Despite leading, the Hurricanes didn’t take their foot off the gas. Unfortunately, this
went against them as the Rangers scored in the 19th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Wojtek Wolski from a quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper by surprise.
The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 with the Hurricanes making 10 goal attempts in the period while the Rangers made 14 goal attempts. The game went into overtime but no goals were scored during the five minutes of overtime.
However, Wojtek Wolski’s only goal in the shootout proved to be the winning goal as the Rangers won the game 4-3 in the end.
