New York Rangers win 5-3 against the Pittsburgh Penguins
New York Rangers hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins in another one of the game on Sunday. The game took place at the Madison Square Garden with a very big crowd coming to witness the game. Both teams were playing the 58th game of their respective
season and this was the 838th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
Both the teams were pretty much even at the start of the period which saw them scoring two goals apiece and the ending the first period level on scores. However, New York Rangers were able to their foot on the gas and scored a couple of goals. In the end,
Rangers emerged as 5-3 winners of the game. Ryan Callahan, winger of the Rangers was named the star selection of the game for his two important goals.
Both teams made great start to the game as they fired shots on goal and displayed some excellent passing. Though the defence of both teams was solid but with the quickness in their play, they were able to get past them. Resultantly, it didn’t take long for
the first goal to be scored. Pittsburgh Penguins scored in the 3rd minute through Deryk Engelland from a decent strike.
Two quick goals were scored in the 6th minute out of which the first was scored by Nick Johnson from wonderful flick shot that doubled the lead for the Penguins. However, Rangers scored in the very same minute through Brian Boyle from a tip in
shot to trial by just a goal.
The home crowd was set wild as the Ranger scored once again in the 10th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan from a superb tip in shot. The period saw both teams making more goal attempts but no further goals were scored.
The scores were level on 2-2 at the end of first period with both teams making 10 goal attempts in the period.
The second period was dominated by the Rangers as they turned out to be more productive of the two teams. Their defence good as they restricted the Penguins to their half and long range shooting which resulted in no goal for the Penguins during the period.
On the other hand, Rangers scored in the 2nd minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Vinny Prospal from a quick fired shot. Penguins came up with shots on target but they weren’t as threatening as the shots of their opponents. Rangers
doubled their lead with Ryan Callahan scoring during power play in the 12th minute. Rangers completed the dominating period’s performance with the final goal of the period in the 16th minute scored by Artem Anisimov during power play.
The period ended with the Ranger leading 5-2. During the period Rangers made 16 goal attempts while Penguins made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the game didn’t see much for either of the teams offensively but there was brilliant defence on display. The only goal of the final period was scored by Brett Sterling in the 6th minute. There were a few more goal attempts
but no further goals scored as the New York Rangers won the game 5-3.
