2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – New York Rangers beat
the Washington Capitals 7-0 

The first game of Sunday saw the New York Rangers play host to the Washington Capitals. The match was played at Madison Square Garden in front of 18,000 fans. This was the 438th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series. The New York Rangers were expected to win the match and they certainly did just that, by absolutely crushing the Washington Capitals 7-0.
The Washington Capitals made a decent start to the match as they fired off a number of shots at the opposing goal. The Capitals came up with splendid offence and defence. The home team started to lay on attack after attack but
failed to convert any of these chances into goals.
The Washington Capitals had a few more chances in the middle part of the period, but once again they failed to score mainly due to lack of coordination up ahead. The New York Rangers managed to score in the 18th minute
through Brandon Prust from a flick shot.
The period ended with the New York Rangers leading the score 1-0. During the course of the period, the Capitals made 10 goal attempts while New York made 8.
The New York Rangers kept the momentum going into the 2nd period and successfully doubled the lead with a goal in the first minute of the period. The goal was scored by Artem Anisimov through a powerful strike.
The home side continued to press on and doing so, came up with some splendid pieces of play that provided them with some regular scoring opportunities. The away side bagged their third goal of the match, Marian Gaborik scoring
from a simple tip-in shot.
Within the next minute, the home team scored once again to take the score to 4-0. The goal was scored by Brandon Dubinsky from a decent shot. The Rangers scored once again in the 11th minute to establish a 5 goals lead
to their advantage. The goal was scored by Marc Staal from a spectacular backhand shot.
The period ended with the New York Rangers leading 5-0. During the period, the Rangers made 10 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made 9.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Rangers scoring once again in the 5th minute through Ryan Callahan.The Rangers continued this scoring streak, getting the back of the net again in the 14th minute to complete
a thrashing win. The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan from a brilliant flick shot.
The period ended with the New York Rangers winning the match 7-0.
