New York Rangers wins 3-2 against Philadelphia Flyers in a shootout after a goalless overtime

Philadelphia Flyers played host to New York Rangers at the Wells Fargo Arena in what was the first game of Sunday. The game was important for Flyers, looking to extend the lead ahead in the Eastern Conference while Rangers was looking to score valuable points
to secure its spot in the playoff’s cut.
The game started off with both teams making quite a few shots on goal. There were several chances for both teams to score goals but it was Flyers who scored the opening goal to get into the lead.
Shots kept on coming and it was Rangers who scored the next goal to level the scores. The second period saw Flyers coming out strong and firing several shots on goal but it was Rangers who scored the lone goal to get into the lead.
The final period witnessed Rangers being the stronger team on attacks but it was Flyers who scored the equalising goal.
The game went into overtime where there were no goals but Rangers emerged as 3-2 winners after the shootout.
Erik Christensen, Rangers’ centre, was named the star of the game as he came up with a fabulous performance.
The first period began with both teams displaying some strong shooting and passing abilities. With the passage of time the plays got better and scoring chances started to come each team’s way.
Flyers was the first to take advantage of this and it scored in the 13th minute through James van Riemsdyk from a brilliant backhand shot to get into the lead.
The shots kept on being fired after the goal and it was Rangers who scored with just a second remaining to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Bryan McCabe with a quick fired shot. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Flyers making 11 shots on goal while Rangers made 12 shots on goal.
The second period kicked off with the Flyers dominating the game with some very strong plays but it was the Rangers who scored in the 14th minute through a brilliant flick shot to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Ruslan Fedotenko from
a decent strike in the 14th minute.
The period ended with Rangers leading by 1-0 as it made 10 shots on goal during the period while Flyers made 14 shots on goal.
The final period saw Flyers quick out of the blocks and scored in the fifth minute to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Nikolay Zherdev from a decent strike. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with Rangers making 10 shots on goal while Flyers made seven shots on goal.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored there and it was Rangers who emerged as 3-2 winners of the game after the shootout.
