New York Rangers wins 4-3 against the Los Angeles Kings
The second game of Thursday was hosted at the Madison Square Garden as the home team; New York Rangers were up against the Los Angeles Kings. The game was very important for both teams with the Rangers looking to maintain their play-off position while the
Kings were looking to make it into the play-off cut.
The scores were level going into the final period where Kings came back twice after falling behind. The scores were still level on 3-3 at the end of regulation time. No goals were scored in overtime but Kings managed to outscore the Rangers in shootout and
emerged as 4-3 winners of the game. Ryan Callahan, winger of the Rangers was named the star of the game with his goal and an assist.
The period started off slowly for both sides as they waited for chances to come their way. There were several occasions where both teams had easy scoring chances but they failed to capitalize. However, the first goal of the game didn’t long and was scored
in the 6th minute in favour of the Kings. The goal was scored by Dustin Brown during power play from a well placed flick shot.
Things slowed down once again. However, Rangers game caught urgency as they felt the need to score and level the scores. This didn’t happen as they missed chance frequently. The same was the case with the Kings. The period ended with no further goals and
Kings leading 1-0. During the course of the period Kings made 9 goal attempts while the Rangers made 10 goal attempts.
The second period started on a high for the Rangers as they fired shots on goal every now and then. The away side dominated possession and scored in the 5th minute through Ryan Callahan to level the scores. The goal was a result of quick fired
and well placed shot.
As the period progressed, chances kept on coming for both teams but they were unable to capitalize from the numerous chances they got. Shots after shots were fired on goal but none of them found the back of the net but this didn’t stop either of the teams
from attacking.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. Kings made 9 goal attempts in the period while the Rangers made 11 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams come out with similar strategy but they proved to be more productive. Rangers bagged the first goal of the period in the 7th minute through Marian Gaborik to get into the lead. However, the lead didn’t last long
as the Kings scored in the next minute through Matt Greene from a powerful strike.
The period moved on with both teams making shots on goal every now and then. However, it wasn’t until the 17th minute that we saw the next goal. With both teams showing the urgency to score, it was Rangers who scored through Artem Anisimov from
a tip in shot to get into the lead once again. However, Kings scored once again in the next minute through Dustin Brown to level the scores.
The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 which took the game into overtime. There were no goal during the five minutes of play but Rangers managed to emerge as 4-3 winners of the game outscoring the Kings 2-1 during shootout.
