New York Rangers wins 6-0 against the Washington Capitals in a brilliant shutout performance
The first game of Friday was played at the Verizon Centre as the home team; Washington Capitals was up against the New York Rangers.
Both the teams are in the play-off cut in the Eastern Conference and a win was very important for either of the two teams if they wanted to stay.
The game began with the Rangers on a high and scoring two goals in each of the three periods.
Though the Capitals matched the Rangers in terms of attacks and dominance, they weren’t able to score any goals throughout the game.
The game ended with the Rangers winning the game 6-0 in the end.
Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers was named the star of the game for making 35 saves during the course of the game.
The Rangers made a strong start to the period that saw them attacking right from the start. The defence also did its job early on as they cut down any attacks in the middle early on.
However, the Rangers weren’t able to benefit from the start until the 6th minute when they scored.
The goal was scored by Steve Eminger from a powerful strike that put the Rangers in the lead.
Capitals started to come across chances as well with the passage of time. Their passing and shooting both got better as time passed in the period.
The momentum shifted gradually but it was the Rangers who scored through Erik Christensen to double their lead. The goal was scored from a brilliant strike in the 15th minute.
The period saw both teams coming up with a few more goal attempts but no further goals were scored.
The period ended with the Rangers leading 2-0. During the period, the Rangers made 10 goal attempts while the Capitals made 13 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Rangers starting on a high once again and coming up with strong shots early on.
In doing so, they constructed brilliant plays and their passing was exquisite. The Rangers managed to score once again in the 5th minute to further extend their lead. The goal was scored by Erik Christensen once again during power play.
Both teams continued to attack and their several occasions where it looked as if one of the teams would most definitely score but unfortunately this didn’t happen. Chance after chance came and went but the scores didn’t change.
However, the Rangers managed to scores once again in the dying stages of the period through Derek Stephan during power play to extend the lead to four goals.
The period ended with couple of more shots but no goals were scored as the Rangers led 4-0 going into the break with both teams making 11 goal attempts each during the period.
The final period was again a reflection of the previous two periods. The Rangers scored early in the 7th minute through Vinny Prospal from a flick shot. However, the Capitals came up with a few shots on goal in the middle part of the period but
it was the Rangers who scored once again and sealed the game.
The goal was scored by Brian Boyle from a decent strike in the final minute. Resultantly, the Rangers won the game 6-0 in the end as they made 7 goal attempts in the final period while the Capitals made 11 goal attempts.
